Micro Detect, Inc. (MDI), a medical diagnostic company, was established in 1997 by Mehdi Alem, Ph.D., the founder, CEO, and president of the company. Back in 1987, Dr. Alem was one of the leading pioneers in establishing the first FDA approved EIA kit used for the detection of antibodies to H. pylori in human serum. Since 1997, MDI has been solely a production and research company which releases diagnostic kits for medical purposes. The H. pylori kits are the specialty product of MDI and are mass produced. The H. pylori products are mainly sold to large, renowned companies and laboratories in the USA. The H. pylori IgG, IgM, and IgA kits are semi-quantitative enzyme immunoassays (EIA) for the detection of IgG, IgM, and IgA antibodies against H. pylori in human serum. These easy to use tests are intended as an aid in the diagnosis of infection by H. pylori in patients with gastrointestinal symptoms and disorders, along with peptic ulcer and cancer.
In addition, MDI also produces the Candida Detect IgG, IgA, and IgM assays which are semi-quantitative enzyme immunoassay (EIA) assays for the detection of IgG, IgA, and IgM antibodies against C. albicans in human serum. These tests are intended as an aid in the diagnosis of C. albicans infection in patients with candidiasis.
MDI has also manufactured autoimmune kits. The detection of certain auto-antibodies in human serum has considerable importance in the diagnosis and management of the patient with autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), discoid lupus erythematosus, mixed connective tissue diseases, (MCTD), systemic sclerosis, Sjogren’s syndrome, polymyositis, dermatomyositis, and rheumatoid arthritis. During the last several years, there has been a progressive characterization of the molecular nature of auto-antigens and a number of antigens associated with specific disease have been identified.
Micro Detect, Inc. has developed several assays for detection of antibodies to autoimmune antigens during the last couple of years including SS-A, SS-B, Scl-70, ds-DNA, Sm, RNP, and RF. Lastly, MDI has most recently released EIA kits for fungal infections. The Coccidioides Detect IgG, IgA, and IgM kits are semi-quantitative enzyme immunoassay (EIA) kits for the detection of antibodies against C. immitis in human serum. The test is intended as an aid in the diagnosis of C. immitis infection in patients with coccidioidomycosis. The Histoplasma Detect IgG, IgA, and IgM kits are semi-quantitative enzyme immunoassay kits for the detection of antibodies against H. capsulatum infection and can be used as an aid in the diagnosis of H. capsulatum infection in patients with Histoplasmosis. In addition , the Blastomyces Detect IgG, IgA, and IgM kits are semi-quantitative enzyme immunoassay (EIA) kits for the detection of antibodies against B. dermatitis and can be used as an aid in the diagnosis of B. dermatitis infection in patients with Blastomycosis.
