| The detection of certain auto-antibodies in human serum has considerable importance in the diagnosis and management of the patient with autoimmune disease such as systemic lumps erythematosus (SLE), discoid lupus erythematosus, mixed connective tissue diseases, (MCTD), systemic sclerosis, Sjogren's syndrome, polymyositis, dermatomyostisis, and rheumatoid arthritis. During the last several years, there has been a progressive characterization of the molecular nature of auto-antigens and a number of antigens associated with specific disease have been identified. | |
